  • The Thyroid Cartilage is known as the Adams Apple.
  • It's impossible to sneeze with you eyes open.
  • Your stomach needs to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks or else it would digest itself.
  • The strongest muscle in your body is the tongue.
  • Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete.
  • When you sneeze all of your bodily functions stop, even your heart.
  • The average human head weighs about 8 lbs.
  • The skull is made up of 29 different bones.
  • Hair is made of the same substance as fingernails.
  • The Pancreas produces Insulin.
  • The Human Body is 80% water.
  • Adults have 206 bones in their body.

Digestive System
digestive-system.jpg.gif

Structures: Mouth, Esophagus, Stomach, Small Intestine, Pancreas, Liver, Gallbladder, Colon, Rectum, and Anus.

Functions: The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract because when you chew saliva breaks down food into pieces so your body can absorb the nutrients from them. The Esophagus is in your throat it receives the food from your mouth so that the food can get to your stomach. The stomach holds the food while it gets mixed with enzymes and acid. The small Intestines break down food with enzymes, water, bile, enzymes, and mucous then moves to the large intestines. The Pancreas secretes digestive enzymes which break down fat, proteins, and carbohydrates. The pancreas also makes insulin to the bloodstream. The liver's main function is to process nutrients absorbed from small intestine. The Gallbladder stores and concentrates bile and then releases it to the small intestine to help absorb and digest fats. The large Intestine, also known as the colon, processes waste so that emptying bowels is easy. Waste is passed through colon in a liquid state and then solid. The rectum receives stool from the waste. The anus is the last part of the digestive system it releases the waste into the stool.

Purpose: Breaks down food into absorbing nutrients

How System Works With Other Systems:Circulatory System makes nutrients to give to cells. Skeletal System helps grind food into pulp and also ribs cover organs in digestive system.Muscular system is needed to chew and work the intestines. The respiratory System works with the digestive system to control air flow.

Diseases and Disorders: Constipation, Diahrea, Hemarrhoids, Hepatitis, Indigestion, Stomach Cancer, and Ulcers

Respiratory System

Structures: Bronchi, Diaphragm, Epiglottis, Esophagus. Heart, Larynx, Lungs, Nasal Cavity, Pharynx, Ribs, and Trachea

Functions: Group of organs and Tissues that help you breathe

Purpose:Supply oxygen to the body, Eliminate carbon dioxide in the body, regulate body's PH balance.

How System Works With Other Systems:Respiratory System holds the epiglottis which opens and closes when food or air goes down it. Skeletal System holds the lungs with the rib cage.Circulatory system transports nutrients and oxygen. It also delivers carbon dioxide and waste. The Muscular System helps push air in and out of the lungs with the diaphragm . The Nervous system controls what you do when you breathe.

Diseases and Disorders: Asthma, Bronchitis, Emphysema, Hay Fever, Pneumonia, Tuberculosis

Circulatory System

Structures: Heart, Arteries, Veins, Capillaries, and lungs.

Function: The Circulatory System is responsible for transporting blood around the body. The blood carries other substances it needs for the body to function. A main function is Oxygen filled with Hemoglobin in the red blood cells. The White blood cells fight disease and infection. Plateletes are important for blood clotting. Blood also carries Carbon Dioxide from muscles and organs so that the lungs can send it out.

Purpose: The purpose of the heart is to pump blood through every blood vessel in the body.
The purpose of the arteries is to transport the oxygen-rich blood to all the major organs in order to deliver oxygen. The purpose of the veins is to transport blood to the heart after the cells in the body exchange their waste products for the blood's oxygen. The purpose of capillaries is to transport blood to small regions within the body. The purpose of the blood, is to transport oxygen from the respiratory system, nutrients from the digestive system, waste from all other body tissues to the excretory system and waste gasses to the respiratory system in an endless circuit.

How System Works With Other Systems:Skeletal System holds the bones that provide calcium and the skull to protect the brain. Circulatory regulates heart rate and blood pressure.Muscular System brain controls contraction of skeletal muscle. Endocrine System hypothalamus controls pituitary Gland and other endocrine glands. Lymphatic System can stimulate brain to defend against infection. Respiratory the brain regulates respiratory rate. Digestive System brain controls feeding and drinking behavior. Reporductive System brain controls mating behavior. Urinary System brain controls urination.

Diseases and Disorders: Angina, Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension, Poor circulation

Nervous Systemnervous-system.jpg

Structures:Dendrite , Cell Body, Axon

Functions: The nervous system controls our lives and all of our body functions. Every action and every response to anything is coordinated by the nervous system, be it physical, mental or emotional.
